1. Professional Assessor

An assessor is an individual who is responsible for the assessment of learning outcomes. One of the criticisms of the assessor unit standards was its stand-alone nature which did not recognize assessment as a process, to this end then, the assessor competency set includes moderation, coaching and guiding learners. Whilst there is agreement that this is not a comprehensive skill set, it at least is more inclusive once the qualifications are released, this set would be reviewed.

2. Professional Assessment Designer

The role of the Assessment Designer is to provide the assessment strategy for the achievement of learning outcomes. This includes an assessment tool that measures the outcomes of a specific learning programme.

3. Professional Instructional / Learning Programme Designer

The Learning Programme designer will work within the SAQA framework. It is intended that they would design the curriculum from the registered SAQA unit standards / qualifications. This will be followed by the programme deliverables which include the design of the learning and support materials, teaching methodologies and related requirements.

4. Professional Facilitator

This skill set recognises the role of facilitator is a complex one involving, learner engagement to promote learning, the management of the learning environment and successful evaluation of the learning. This would include a dynamic process of a variety of facilitation methodologies to suite the target audience based on an understanding of the various learning styles of the target audience.

5. Professional RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) Advisor

The recognition of prior learning is a national priority. The need for competent persons understanding RPL is therefore urgent. This skill set is based on unit standards that are currently available and recognises the need for more development of RPL competency standards.

6. Professional Quality Auditor

In line with the ethos of a professional body, we include this skills set which seeks to promote quality within the sector. It includes the quality competencies from TQM (Total Quality Management) and contextualises it within the training sector. The implementation within the work environment is a complex initiative and will require project management.

7. Professional Mentor and Coach

The purpose of coaching is to improve the individual’s performance on the job. This involves either enhancing current skills or acquiring new skills. Its purpose is to develop the individual not only for the current job, but also for the future. This distinction differentiates the role of the immediate manager and that of the mentor.

8. Professional Learning Administrator

This competency set serves the role of a data-capturer within the learning environment. It would include competencies to effectively use a learner management system with an understanding of the training context. It would further include the administration that goes with implementing a learning programme.

9. Professional Skills and HR Administrator

In line with the Skills Development Act, workplaces are required to promote skills development using the incentives provided by the Act. Being able to effectively leverage this to the benefit of companies and learners, requires the competency set of the Skills Development Facilitator. This skills set however, explores the administrative role a lot deeper by including various skills administration competencies that would help promote workplace learning.

10. Professional Training Manager (Operations)

In a training environment, the competencies in this portfolio will be required to deal with the operational requirements in managing a training institution. It would include skills for effective resource management, production management, conflict management, project management and all compliance matters.

11. Professional Training Manager (Strategic)

In the training environment this would include the competencies for more strategic management of the training institution. It seeks to have a more leadership focus.

12. Professional Financial Adviser

This competency relates to the role of the finance officer in a training organisation. It assumes that the person operates under an executive manager. It include competencies in managing the institution’s finances, fraud management and meeting all financial compliance matters.

In the absence of the registered unit standard of this competence, CIPPT recognises its importance and role in the training landscape. CIPPT will promote training programmes to enable professionals to gain this competence.

14. Professional eLearning Advisor

In the absence of the registered unit standard of this competence, CIPPT recognises its importance and role in the training landscape. CIPPT will promote training programmes to enable professionals to gain this competence.

15. Professional Customer Service Advisor

CIPPT will recognise unit standards across sectors on this competence.

16. Professional AET/ FLC (Adult Education Training / Foundational Learning Competence) Trainer

This skills set is designed to include “ABET” facilitators. The competencies for this skill set will include the core competencies to be found in the ETDP SETA ABET Practitioner Qualification.
